When Google talks, I at least pay attention. Whether you like them or not, no one can deny that Google has a great deal of KLOUT on the interwebz. This Google Friend Connect thing is the latest scuttlebutt. Of course I have to try it, even though I’m not insanely hopeful that it’s going to do anything for me. Most Google thingies seem to follow the biblical model (paraphrased by me):
To them that hath, more shall be given, and thou that hath not spinneth thy wheels in vain.

In case you hadn’t heard, our local newspaper publishers (Gazette-Times/Democrat Herald owned by Lee Enterprises) have taken a giant step future-ward with the launch of the new mid-valley voice social network. If you are not local, I would hazard a guess that other historically print based publishers are doing a similar thing to try to compensate for dwindling print subscriptions, so this article is not just for locals.

Well, it had to happen. It is amazing that I’ve been using WordPress so long without getting into its guts. While hacking on the Tweet this plugin ever so gently, I started to get the feel for how WP plugins work. So I wrote a couple myself. The first one is serious old school, as it’s modeled on some older plugins. The second one actually uses more object oriented methodology, and so should be easier to read, maintain, and hack on.
