Toonlet with Audio

I just clipped each individual frame of one of my toonlets and put them in an open office presentation. Then I fired up Berio and ran the slideshow fullscreen while I read the lines. Then I imported the whole thing into IMovie, clipped the beginning and end, compressed it a little and uploaded it to Youtube.

utterli-orange-textx60Utterli seems like a lot like Twitter at first glance. The difference is that you can post voice messages, video, or stills directly to it from your mobile.

Sarah Palin Answer Oracle

Sarah Palin Wow a Sarah Palin Answer Generator!! I had a lot of fun playing with Sarah Palin sound bites this morning, then I whipped up this little program to crank out Sarah Palin speeches. This audio player creates a genuine unique Sarah Palin answer to any question you might wish to ask. You don’t have to input your question — that just takes time. I could just say that, like the Ouija board, the oracle already knows the question in your heart anyway but the fact of the matter is, as evidenced by the VP debates last night, that the question doesn’t really seem to matter anyway. I have to give Sarah Palin’s “debate” coaches credit. They did a fabulous job prepping her for the debates. Her answers at the debates made grammatical sense and were flawlessly executed and watching it on my neighbors’ non-HD TV, Palin looked fabulus. “Nucular” be damned — her people like it that way and by golly more power to ‘em.

Without further ado, here is the audio. If you don’t like the one you got, refresh the page and you’ll get a new one. If this page gets really popular I’ll make it all ajax-ian and you can get a new one without a reload, but if it’s a stumble flash in the pan, forget it.

The Sarah Palin answer to YOUR question

If you enjoyed this little bit of frivolity, after you stumbled and dugg this, please vote for ME for president. I’m only running for president of the blogosphere, but surely I’m at least as qualified as Sarah Palin!

Lolcatese — u lerns it or eatz mai dust sucka

Lolcatese — is it becoming the new internet pidgin? Perhaps first exclusively written language? Lolcatese is named after the acronym LOL, which is Textese for “laughing out loud.” Textese is a thing distinct from Lolcatese. The purpose of Textese is to transmit the message with the fewest number of keystrokes. Lolcatese and Textese have similar ancestry, but Lolcatese seems to be evolving into a separate language all its own, complete with grammar and spelling conventions, and even pronunciation hints, although Lolcatese is primarily a written language. I’m not sure where the “cat” part comes in.

Volunteer for Librivox

librivox logoIt seems most bloggers are very busy trying to suck money from the internet. If tweaking and promoting of your blog doesn’t eat every last second of your time, consider giving something back. I recently found out about Librivox — an all volunteer project to provide audio of public domain literature.  Librivox is the natural audio follow-on to the Gutenberg project, from which all their readings are sourced.  It’s funny how I heard about Librivox the same day I just spent the afternoon with a 100% blind person.

How to make an audio post

TalkR — Audio of your blog

What is it with me and Text-To-Speech? Just fond memories, I guess. At one time I had a TalkR widget in my Blogger blog. It had a list of all the posts and it would speak whichever one you picked. It must have worked at one time or I would have never published it. I followed the directions at radio.talker.com to create one for this blog. The widget looked just fine but it didn’t work. In fact that entire widget seems to have gone south in general. So I’m not putting it here.

I also had a hack in the post template of my Blogger blog that would read each individual post but its code was blogger specific.

Good ol’ Wordpress to the rescue with a plugin for TalkR. I installed the TalkR plugin, registered the feed and now it is putting a little TalkR link at the bottom of every post. I had to install a codec in Firefox (Ubuntu) on the clientside to get it to stream mp3, but now it seems to work for me.

There is concern expressed in the ranks about the flakiness and spotty availability of TalkR. I removed both the widget and the individual post hack from the Blogger blog because, if I recall correctly, if TalkR went down the blog wouldn’t load. If it does that to Hot Dorkage I’ll have to disable the plugin.

Feed Blitz Chiclet

FeedBlitz Chiclet: What is FeedBlitz? And what is a chiclet (or chicklet, as it is sometimes spelled?) FeedBlitz is an outfit that creates and manages a subscription list for your blog FREE. And the term “chiclet” has come to mean any web third party dynamic thing that does interesting Web 2.0 stuff on the back end. Usually a chicklet is visually enhanced by placing it in or on a 3-d background resembling an old-fashioned chiclets brand of gum. Chiclets has been acquired by Cadbury Adams, in case you’re interested. How it works: You tell Feedblitz the feed address for your blog. They provide a mechanism whereby people can request a notification via email –anonymously if they want!– whenever the blog is updated. Feed Blitz also supports other notification methods as well, as it turns out. Continue Reading…
