2-D Barcodes for your mobile device

Nokia 2-d barcode This post is pretty far out in left field, as were regular UPC bar codes when they were originally developed. Did you know many Nokia mobile devices come with a 2-D barcode reader? Continue Reading…

XKCD Burma Shave

@sil tweeted this; blog post kind of an extended retweet:

This one from XKCD resonates with me. I’ll get some original content up here soon I promise. But meanwhile, this one is good. And if you’re old enough to actually have seen *REAL* burma shave signs leave me a comment about where and when you last spotted one.

By the way, I’ve been playing with some twitter tools lately. I haven’t figured out tweet deck yet. It runs really really slow. but I really like tweet track and Qwitter. Rather than bore myself reiterating it all, I’ll just embed my twitterstream for ya: I’ll even jazz it up with some fancy widgety presentation.

Merge PDF’s into one with A-PDF

A-PDF offers several PDF utilities. Of interest today is a little utility called A-PDF Merger that will take a bunch of PDF files and merge them into one big one. You can actually do this by hacking the postscript code but life is too short. I think most of us would just want to say, “here take these 17 short PDF’s and convert them into one big one.”

A-PDF's application window

A-PDF's application window

It is very easy to use — just open its window, tell it what files you want to use, put them in the order you want and say merge. You can even pick and choose certain pages of any source document, or interleave two documents.

A-PDF products are try-free-ware. You can use it free as long as you don’t mind the watermark. For professional use, this little utility is not expensive. (I don’t blog the exact price because such things can go out of date if they raise it.) Download here, and happy PDF-ing. (PS: They also have other utilities too, including one that will unprotect a protected PDF. )

Morph your face into something else

Just having some fun with the morph generator at St. Andrews. I fed it a picture in of one of the coolest people in the galaxy, and look what it did. That first one is supposed to be a baby–EEK! it looks like Chuckie — where did they get that other row of teeth!!! The east asian one is actually OK. But the West Asian and the African one look like bad makeup jobs. Fooo! Not trying to dis on anyone, please no one take offense, it’s just a toy. It has a face averager too. I tried to average my face with Sarah Palin’s, and it hung. Darn. But it’s probably for the best.

Sarah Palin Answer Oracle

Sarah Palin Wow a Sarah Palin Answer Generator!! I had a lot of fun playing with Sarah Palin sound bites this morning, then I whipped up this little program to crank out Sarah Palin speeches. This audio player creates a genuine unique Sarah Palin answer to any question you might wish to ask. You don’t have to input your question — that just takes time. I could just say that, like the Ouija board, the oracle already knows the question in your heart anyway but the fact of the matter is, as evidenced by the VP debates last night, that the question doesn’t really seem to matter anyway. I have to give Sarah Palin’s “debate” coaches credit. They did a fabulous job prepping her for the debates. Her answers at the debates made grammatical sense and were flawlessly executed and watching it on my neighbors’ non-HD TV, Palin looked fabulus. “Nucular” be damned — her people like it that way and by golly more power to ‘em.

Without further ado, here is the audio. If you don’t like the one you got, refresh the page and you’ll get a new one. If this page gets really popular I’ll make it all ajax-ian and you can get a new one without a reload, but if it’s a stumble flash in the pan, forget it.

The Sarah Palin answer to YOUR question

If you enjoyed this little bit of frivolity, after you stumbled and dugg this, please vote for ME for president. I’m only running for president of the blogosphere, but surely I’m at least as qualified as Sarah Palin!
